Presentation of Gavin’s Birthday Photobook, February 4th 2012.

“After the soundcheck we lined up to do M&Gs with Gavin. He was in a really good mood joking around in his lovely, silly way ;o)

When it was my turn, I walked towards him and he gave me a hug right away :oD I asked him to sign my “Sweeter” cd sleeve and a picture I’d brought.

Then it was time to present the book. You could tell that Gavin was pretty curious what it was. I started by saying that this was a present to him from his fans all over the world. It was a joint effort starting on twitter and lots of fans had participated by sending in pictures that were made into this book for him, which had been shipped from the States so I could present it to him on his birthday. I also said the fans were really grateful for the friendships we’d made because of him and that that’s how the four of us (Mette, Sus and my friend Nina) had met. He was very impressed and went “Wow, that’s really great!”.

He then started to take the ribbon off the cover of the book, pretending that was really hard to do ;o) The silly kid Gavin is, he then acted like he was gonna eat the ribbon! It was really funny!

But as soon at he opened the book, I guess he realized that this was actually a sincere gift and something the fans had put a lot of thought and work into, cause he immediately went really quiet and serious. I told him about the poem that had been written for him, and showed him the paragraph about who’s behind the book, and the links to the videos that had been made. He listened very carefully to me and spent the longest time looking at the pages going “Wow, this is so nice… this is so cool… how thoughtful of you… this is really special” and the like. When he got to the page with my friend Nina’s picture, she pointed it out and said “that’s my picture” and he smiled and said “yeah that’s you!” :o)  He turned a couple more pages and got to my picture, and he looked at me with a big smile and went “and that’s you!” :oD

I’m in no doubt that Gavin really appreciated our gift. He kept going on about how wonderful it was and how thoughtful we’d been, and as we wrapped up, he said “Thank you very much! Something like this is really nice to have on the bus…”

The four of us posed for a couple of pictures with Gavin holding the book, and then the M&G was over. Sam said they had to get going, but before we left I told Gavin to check twitter cause the fans were trying to get him to trend on his birthday. He thought that was pretty cool and promised to try to check.

Then we had to leave, but before we did I got a picture with him!”
